Living roofs, built to last

A flat roof covered in sedum or planting, laid over a reliable waterproofing membrane. It absorbs rainwater, adds insulation and looks good all year.

Overview

A green roof, sometimes called a living roof, is a flat roof covered with a growing layer installed over a waterproofing membrane. The planting is only as good as the roof beneath it, so the waterproofing is where we start.

Green roofs absorb rainwater, add a layer of insulation and need little maintenance. They can make a lasting, attractive feature of a garden room, an extension or a commercial building.

Green roofs can also work alongside solar panels. If you are considering both, we can plan them together.

Not sure if a green roof would suit your building? We will survey it and give you clear advice.

Why choose it

The benefits of green roofs

  • Absorbs rainwater

The growing layer holds water and slows the run-off from the roof.

  • Extra insulation

Planting and substrate add a natural layer of insulation.

  • Low maintenance

Sedum is hardy and needs little attention once established.

  • Long life

A proper waterproofing membrane beneath, protected by the planting above.

FAQs

Green roofs: your questions

What goes under a green roof?
A waterproofing membrane. The growing layer sits on top of it, so getting the waterproofing right is the most important part of the job.
Do green roofs need much maintenance?
Very little. Sedum is hardy. Like any roof, it is worth an occasional check of outlets and edges.
Can I have solar panels on a green roof?
Yes, the two can work together. If you are considering both, we can plan them at the same time.
